Lantern-light visits of Saint-Papoul Abbey with Yelloh! Village

Situated in Cathar Country between Toulouse and Carcassonne, Saint-Papoul Abbey embodies more than a thousand years of history. Between July and August, it opens its doors late in the evening for a lantern-light visit.

In the heart of the Lauragais region sits the majestic Saint-Papoul Abbey-Cathedral. Begun in the 8th century, the monument is named after a 3rd-century martyr. The Benedictine abbey has witnessed 1,200 years of history, and has occasionally been the site of some landmark events. In particular, it was the scene of conflict between Catholics and Protestants, as the monument is located in the heart of Cathar country. Discover the history of the site and the region with a visit of the abbey, the cloister and the cathedral.

Are you spending your holiday at one of our campsites in the Aude? Then you’re lucky! From the end of July to the end of August, the Abbey is open for night-time visits. They are held every Monday and are lit by lanterns. Immerse yourself in this atmospheric site for an hour with the electric lights switched off, and you’ll see the abbey just as the Benedictine monks did once night fell. A unique experience not to be missed!
