The Berlengas archipelago

While holidaying on the west coast of Portugal, visit the Berlengas archipelago, an authentic natural treasure where the wide-open sea, an extraordinary seabed and fine sandy beaches await you.

Spotlight on the Berlengas archipelago

The Berlengas consists of three small islands forming a rocky archipelago off the coast of Peniche. The largest, Berlenga Grande – the only accessible island – is a little slice of paradise for anyone who loves to relax in the sun or to explore nature. The island is reached on a boat that links the coast to the archipelago, with departures every hour from Peniche. The 30-minute journey will take you to an outstanding environment renowned both for its beauty and its ecosystem.

What to see and do?

There is something for everyone here. Go hiking or snorkelling to explore the island’s various caves, enjoy a walk or simply relax on the beach at Carreiro de Mosteiro.

To round off your day on the island, visit Berlengas’ fortress which looks out to the Atlantic and offers a sweeping view of the island and the ocean.
