An island with two faces

In the south, the mild climate encourages abundant vegetation: agapanthus, mimosa, fig trees and eucalyptus line the paths. Cross the Pont ar Prat and the scenery changes: the northern part of the island, more exposed to the winds, reveals wilder landscapes and lower vegetation, all the way to the pink granite rocks of Pointe du Paon.

Did you know?

In 1907, Bréhat became the first classified natural site in France. This early recognition of the beauty of its landscapes still contributes to their preservation today.

What to do during your visit?

Set off along the island’s paths and make your way to the Phare du Paon, at the northern tip, to admire its spectacular rocky setting. Also stop at the Birlot tidal mill, built in the 17th century, then head to higher ground near Saint-Michel chapel. With no private cars, Bréhat is mainly explored on foot or by bike, at the gentle pace of its small paths.

Back on the mainland, continue exploring around Paimpol and Pointe de l’Arcouest, the departure point for crossings to Bréhat, or follow the Goëlo coast to enjoy new views over the archipelago.
