The Vendée Va’a

Looking for an unusual event to enjoy with your family or friends? How about the Vendée Va’a. Never heard of it? Intrigued to find out what hides behind this strange title? Come this way and we’ll tell you more...

You’re certainly wondering what the Vendée Va’a involves? Va’a is a Polynesian word for an outrigger canoe. You know, those traditional little wooden boats? In Tahiti it’s a veritable national sport, and at Les Sables-d’Olonne it has now become a headline event! So, every year at the end of May, this sea-going Polynesian outrigger race brings together more than 230 rowers. And, as you’ll see, it’s pretty impressive.

But the Vendée Va’a isn’t just a race, it’s also 4 days of celebration and sharing, a fun way to discover Polynesian culture. With a Polynesian village set up on-site, the whole family can explore all the wealth and know-how of these exotic islands. Some thirty stand-holders are ready and waiting to present their specialities: jewellery, gastronomy, flower garland workshops... There is even a stage so that you can come and enjoy the traditional dance and music performances by groups that have come especially from Tahiti. Totally exceptional! It offers the perfect opportunity to travel to the other side of the world during your camping holiday. Prepare for some unforgettable memories filled with discoveries, dreams and fascinating encounters. “Aloha!”

See you from 08 to 11 May 2024.
