The Carcassonne Ablaze event with Yelloh! Village

Every year for the past 120 years, Carcassonne is set ablaze with a technicolour light show. The sky and the ramparts form the stunning backdrop for the Carcassonne Ablaze event, the town’s annual 14 July display.

Since 1898, the old city of Carcassonne has put on one of the most spectacular shows in France to commemorate 14 July. Once night falls, at 10:30pm, the ramparts and the sky light up with fireworks and billowing red, gold and blue smoke. A 25-minute show that draws over 500,000 people from across the world. The show ends with a dazzling final flourish when more than 1,200 fireworks are set off in less than 10 seconds!

The Carcassonne Ablaze event pays homage to an episode that marked Carcassonne’s history. It commemorates 14 August 1898, when the “Cadets de Gascogne” regiment entered the town. To celebrate their arrival, a number of big feasts were held – so many feasts, in fact, that their lights set the city aglow. Today, Carcassonne Ablaze is so popular that the hotels and campsites are fully booked months ahead. The pyrotechnical extravaganza is even shown on television. If you’re on holiday in a Yelloh! Village campsite in the Aude at the right time, you simply can’t miss this magical moment!
