Camping Sanguinet

At the northern tip of the Landes region, Sanguinet welcomes you to the shores of a magnificent lake. A peaceful haven, perfect for a holiday with family or friends.

Do you know Sanguinet?

On the edge of the Gironde department, at the point marking the start of the Landes department, the municipality of Sanguinet welcomes holidaymakers to the shores of Lake Cazeaux-Sanguinet. This natural border, which marks the boundary between the 33rd and 40th French departments, has earned itself a reputation. Indeed, Cazeaux-Sanguinet is part of the Landes Great Lakes.

Covering an area of 55 km², Cazaux-Sanguinet is the second largest lake in France. All around it, beaches, marinas and water sports facilities have been fitted out. Therefore, it has everything needed to be a true tourist destination in its own right. Every summer, the 4,000 residents living in Sanguinet all year round are joined by thousands of tourists. They flock there to enjoy the mild weather of the Landes, its lakes, pine forests and the Atlantic Ocean.

You too can opt for a campsite in Sanguinet and discover a unique destination located between the lakes and the ocean. And of course, all this under the sun of South-West France, a region with a rich culture and a wealth of traditions.

Did you know?

Although the municipality of Sanguinet is located in the Landes department, its neighbours are mostly... from the Gironde. Indeed, between the marine border, located in the middle of the lake, and the land border, Sanguinet is actually surrounded by the Gironde to the north, east, west and even to the south-east. No less!

Also, since the lake is located partly in the municipality, a large part of Sanguinet is listed as a Natura 2000 area.

And, to clarify a common misconception, the name Sanguinet has no connection with blood. The municipality takes its name from the Gascon word "sanguin", which refers to a variety of plant.

What's on the programme?

The advantage of staying at a campsite in Sanguinet is that it's easy to visit the entire region of the Landes. The town is an excellent base for touring but Sanguinet and its surroundings are also home to many places of interest and typical landscapes of the department.

Of course, a trip to the lake is a must. Freshwater swimming enthusiasts will be able to enjoy themselves to the full, even more so here with the lake being so large. It’s also possible to enjoy many water sports activities: sailing, kite surfing, fishing, pedal-boating, water skiing, aquabike, and more. There's no doubt that you will find one to suit your taste.

Choosing a campsite in Sanguinet also offers you the chance to vary your pleasures. After splashing around in the lake, there is nothing stopping you from paying a visit to the ocean. The Atlantic is very close by, just 20 kilometres from Sanguinet.

You could also tour the different Great Lakes. Some of them are well worth a visit, such as:

  • Parentis-Biscarrosse lake
  • Aureilhan and Mimizan lake
  • Léon lake

  • Or Soustons lake

After enjoying the water, it's time to return to dry land. Sanguinet is ideal for outings, whether on foot or by bicycle. Between the pine forests, the banks of the River Leyre and the Arcachon Bay, the landscapes are a wonder to behold.

And, it will also be possible to visit the rest of the region. Biscarrosse, Hossegor, Mont-de-Marsan, Dax and Capbreton, to mention but a few. The Landes and its heritage will never cease to amaze you. Finally, as Sanguinet is on the border with the Gironde, you can also pay a visit to the Arcachon Bay
