Nazaré is a Portuguese resort in the Leiria district in the west of the country, surrounded by towns such as Alcobaça, Caldas da Rainha and Marinha Grande, and is one of Portugal’s most beautiful seaside destinations. The ideal spot for a sunshine holiday by the Atlantic Ocean. Nazaré boasts a lovely beach, but also has incredible heritage and history. In the past, the town served as a landmark for fishermen on the Atlantic Ocean. Today, it appeals to locals, holidaymakers and sports fans alike. It is an outstanding surfing spot and attracts numerous wave addicts and board sport lovers.

What to see and do? 

Explore this gorgeous seaside village with its cobbled streets lined with old fishermen’s houses and its historical and cultural heritage. Discover the church of Our Lady of Nazaré and its unique statue of Mary. Visit the Gothic monastery of Alcobaça and take a lovely stroll along the seafront promenade. Enjoy the destination’s typical specialities and dine on fish freshly caught just a few metres away.

Head away from the centre and admire the stunning view from the Miradouro do Suberco or from São Miguel Arcanjo Fort.

Fancy lazing in the sun? The town has a vast beach stretching for almost 2 km between Cape Sítio to the north and the town’s fishing port to the south, the ideal place to top up your holiday tan. If you like to keep on the move, the beach offers an array of water activities for you to try, such as paddle boarding, jet-skiing, surfing or kayaking! Famished after that day at the beach? Get together for an afternoon snack and try a Bola de Berlim, a local speciality.
