7 good reasons to visit our region

1. The lush countryside

In the south of the Landes, forests scattered with typical Landes farms, to be explored on foot, horseback or bike. You'll be bewitched by the countryside, blown away by the vastness of the fine sandy beaches and dazzled by the numerous spots where you can learn to surf or body-board. Right next door: the Basque country, mountains, Biarritz, St-Jean-de-Luz, the little villages, songs and folklore.

2. Labenne

A seaside resort on the southern Landes coast, Labenne enjoys a privileged position at the gates of the Basque country and on the doorstep of the Pyrenees and Spain. Between Capbreton and Biarritz, this family seaside resort invites you to discover its beach, its forest, its friendliness ... You can canoe on the Boudigou canal, exploring our lovely scenery by mountain bike, and go surfing or body-boarding at any level, or horse riding... Everything you could want for a real holiday.

3. Capbreton

Take a stroll around the town of Capbreton to see its marina, its lovely beaches so popular with surfers, and its museum. The seaside resort of the southern Landes, this is a must-visit place. At the confluence of the Boudigou and the Bourret rivers, the fishing port of Capbreton offers a panorama over the marina, the Captainerie (harbour master's office) and the vast Landes beaches, with the Pyrenees as a backdrop. Try the seafood sold directly by the fishermen at the foot of the Capbreton Captainerie. For surf enthusiasts, make the most of the beaches with their many spots, whilst the ecomuseum of fishing above the Casino will reveal to you the treasures of the Ocean.

4. Dax

Come and share the Gascon party spirit! The Dax feria in August is a festival packed with Spanish traditions and culture. Folklore, corrida, bodegas - the town dons its red and white party finery. Come to the bull-running, with all the atmosphere and music, and admire the agility of the youths running before the wild cows and bulls. For a health-giving holiday, come and try the thalassotherapy. What could be more iconic than the Landes shepherds in costume, berets on heads, and walking on stilts during the folk festivals?

5. Hossegor

With its so-called "Basco-Landais" architectural style, this seaside resort, just a few kilometres from our campsite, is a mecca for surfers. Surrounded by forest, lake and ocean, the lovely beaches are one of the venues for the world surfing championships. Walking around, you'll notice the Hispanic or art-deco style villas. Leading on from the lake, the walk along the Hossegor canal is 1,695 metres. This walk is made possible by the presence of its 2 bridges and information boards. For the more adventurous, it is possible to walk right round the lake and its canal - a distance of 7,325 metres.

6. Bayonne

The financial capital of the Adour basin, Bayonne, festive and friendly all year long, sees a renewal of activity during the traditional "fêtes" of August. This is when the warm Basque welcome and the Gascon festive spirit come to the fore: such a combination can only be explosive and colourful, with a great deal of noise... and alcohol flowing!

7. The Landes gastronomy

The Landes and the Basque country are equally famous for their gastronomy. Come and sample the local produce: Bayonne ham, Basque chocolate, foie gras... Enough to make your mouth water. An art of living to match the joviality that reigns here: bistros, restaurants, cider factories, eateries and farmers' markets.
