The Phare des Baleines

Near the charming village of Saint-Clément-des Baleines, between the large La Conche beach and the Côte Sauvage, stands the Les Baleines lighthouse, a monumental site on the Île de Ré… Discover it during your holiday on this wonderful island!

Focus on the Les Baleines lighthouse

Facing the ocean, the Les Baleines lighthouse is one of the most beautiful and highest lighthouses in France. It was built and lit in 1854 in the frame of the extensive programme to mark hazards along the coastline and reinforce the action of the old tower built under Vauban. This lighthouse served to guide sailors returning to dry land.

On the programme?

Enjoy a stunning view over the Île de Ré and the Atlantic Ocean after climbing the lighthouse’s 257 steps to reach its 57-metre high summit! On the way back down, pay a visit to the lighthouse museum, the building of the former training school for lighthouse keepers! Its entire history is recounted there! And round off your day with the Parc des Baleines to complete your discovery of this exceptional site.
