Camping Challans

Are you spending your holidays in the Vendée? Be sure to stop off in the charming town of Challans a few kilometres from the Atlantic Coast and the heart of the Vendée's Marais Breton.

Do you know Challans?

A town of character in north-western Vendée, Challans offers a gentle way of life and traditions. Surrounded by the land and the sea, Challans is the third largest town in the Vendée, a place not to be missed.

On a street corner, you will be able to admire Notre Dame church and its famous bell tower 50 metres away on Place de l’Abbé Grelier. An astonishing monument indeed! Continue your route and pay a visit to the Espace Jan et Joël Martel, which pays tribute to two famous sculptors. And if you have the opportunity to pass by Place Aristide Briand, be sure to take a look at the Bailly hardware store, a picturesque small shop that has preserved its shop front from the olden days! As you leave the town centre, discover Coudrie Abbey dating from the 12th century, a listed monument near the village of La Flocellière. A former commandery of the Knights Templar, today, all that remains of the site is the church.

On the programme?

If you want to discover the regional produce, every Tuesday morning, more than 150 market traders gather in Challans for the largest weekly market in the Vendée.

Are you interested in history? On four Thursdays during the summer, the town is plunged into the past for the Foires à l’Ancienne d’Autrefois de Challans, where more than 1,500 volunteers in period dress offer visitors the chance to relive the traditions and customs of the region at the start of the 20th century.

And for those who enjoy nature and tranquillity, the La Sablière leisure park is the perfect spot with fishing and play grounds for the pleasure of young and old alike!
