4. Excursions to the Glénan archipelago
Just off the seaside resort of Bénodet there lies the Glénan archipelago, bringing to mind a tropical atoll with its crystal clear blue-green water. The shallowness of the water and the very pale sand produces this colour, reminiscent of the Pacific. The islands of Penfret, Drennec, Loch and Saint-Nicolas are some of the main islands of the archipelago, with only the island of Saint-Nicolas being accessible to the public at large. Cruises depart from Bénodet. An important bird sanctuary and nature reserve, this archipelago has become a water-sports paradise, a place to learn and practise sailing and sub-aqua diving. Further south, the coast becomes wild towards the Pointe de la Torche, a funboarders' paradise. On the Pointe de Penmarc'h, the giant Eckmühl lighthouse stands guard.
