Do you know Saint-Clément-des-Baleines?

A little village composed of 6 hamlets, Saint-Clément-des-Baleines is an old lobster-fishing port lying at the tip of the western coast of the Île de Ré. Stretching from the Côte Sauvage to the La Conche beach, this village is also home to one of the most symbolic and most-visited monuments of the island: the Les Baleines lighthouse. It’s time to discover the historical heritage and glorious nature of this village surrounded by an impressive diversity of scenery: salt marshes, vines, beaches, forests...

Did you know? Saint-Clément-des-Baleines owes its name to the famous whales (“baleines” in French), that apparently became stranded on its beaches for reasons unknown. Amazing!

On your programme?

If you’re staying in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, you really can’t miss a visit to the Les Baleines lighthouse, one of the most powerful on the Atlantic coast. From the top you’ll be able to enjoy a glorious panorama that takes in the whole island! You’ll even be able to make out the beach on the Côte Sauvage. A rocky beach, even at high tide, it makes the perfect playground for all who love shellfish gathering! As for the La Conche beach, it’s unbeatable for soaking up the sun, building sandcastles or hunting for the prettiest seashells, and not forgetting the great range of watersports available. Stretching from the Les Baleines lighthouse and the Le Lizay headland all the way to Les Portes-en-Ré, there’s no more magical spot for a stroll as the sun slips over the horizon...
