La Coubre state forest
Focus on the La Coubre state forest! Covering some 8,000 hectares this is one of the largest forests in northern Nouvelle-Aquitaine. An exceptional natural area made up of evergreen oaks and maritime pines. A wonderful excursion to enjoy with the family as you explore the coastal dunes of the Avert peninsula.
What to see and do? Spend a fabulous day where nature reigns supreme, as you enjoy the sublime landscapes of the Charente-Maritime. So lace up your trainers, grab your bike and head off along the clearly-marked trails. A cycle track stretches all the way from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer to La Tremblade, 30 kilometres to gently pedal between the pines and the ocean. But above all don’t forget your camera, the scenery is out of this world. To truly capture all the splendour of the forest, why not climb the 300 steps of the La Coubre lighthouse? The view from the top is simply breathtaking!
