Focus on Ecozonia 

In the heart of the Pyrenees-Orientales, discover Ecozonia: an animal park unlike any other since it is devoted entirely to predators. A few kilometres from Perpignan, an area of no less than 26 hectares is devoted to these animals at the top of the food chain. The area is divided into "eco-zones", areas of the planet representing a major ecological unit. This principle is based on the notion of animal protection.

Ecozonia is very much part of this trend. Indeed, the park's main goal is to limit the site’s impact on the environment, but also to implement actions contributing to the introduction of species back into their natural environment. This is a much more difficult step when it involves carnivores. Thus, Ecozonia also supports conservationists in the field and carries out research to help reintroduce animals and improve their welfare.

In total, the site is home to 17 different species, including Siberian tigers and panthers, grey wolves, brown bears, great grey owls and Eurasian lynx. All the animals are classified by family, geographic origin (and their equivalent eco-zone) and, above all, conservation status (ranging from minor concern to extinction). Because, despite their status as predators, some species are at great threat of extinction.

Located near the Yelloh! Village campsites in the Pyrénées-Orientales, Ecozonia is the perfect place to visit for both young and old alike. It offers the opportunity to meet magnificent animals, and improve our understanding of their way of life, the risks they face, and also our planet’s ecosystems.

On the programme?

Ecozonia offers several ways of visiting the park. The first is a tour of the site and its different eco-zones:

• African Adventure

The tour has been designed to offer a unique immersive experience that allows you to get as close as possible to the predators whilst also being as discreet as possible. Set aside about 2½ hours for the visit.

Are you looking for a different experience? Ecozonia offers some unique experiences. Whether on your own or with others, opt for an original visit. For example:

• Birthday Package: celebrate your birthday in the park with a treasure hunt with your friends. A circuit centred on the Siberian tiger.
• VIP Tour: a behind-the-scenes view and falconry, in a small group for a completely immersive experience.
• Keeper for a day: for an entire morning, follow one of the park keepers on his or her daily rounds (flight of the birds of prey, care, feeding, etc.).
• Nocturnal visits: spend 2 hours discovering this fascinating world in the dark and learn about the life of predators after the sun has set.

Finally, Ecozonia has recently set up eco-lodges in the Russian Far East eco-zone. It is now possible to spend a night in the park close to the predators. Each of the 5 lodges offers a different theme. Thus, the decoration changes in line with the animal you will observe. Tigers, dholes, panthers, bears or wolves, the choice is yours. Half-board is also included, with a menu devised by the Michelin star Chef, Laurent Lemal.

After your visit, the park also offers you the chance to sponsor an animal. Your donation will ensure you many advantages and the money collected is donated in full to the conservation programmes supported by the Ecozonia Conservation association.
