Make the most of your break in Les Tournels village to set off on an excursion along the French Riviera and the Provencal hinterland. How can anybody resist the charm of this region?
In the vicinity of the campsite, discover the surrounding villages. Ramatuelle with its old village perched on a rocky hillock, its Pampelonne beach and its festivals, and St-Tropez, with its lively night life and its stunning bay. Gassin, perched on the St-Tropez peninsula, deserves its reputation as the most beautiful village in France. Not forgetting Port Grimaud, the Venice of Provence.
After the hustle and bustle of the beaches, set off to explore the hinterland. At the heart of the Maures massif, after a stony and windy road offering splendid views, you'll discover the old Chartreuse de la Verne (Verne monastery) in its green setting. And come in search of our traditions and local crafts. Apt has become the specialist centre for earthenware, fine pottery, tiles and ochres, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie for high-fired faience, while the whole of Provence specializes in gourmet local produce, from olives to truffles.
The Port Cros nature reserve, which is home to a great number of typically-Mediterranean land and marine species, Porquerolles with its outstanding sea-bed as well as its gardens and orchards containing ancient varieties, the Iles du Levant, a real paradise on earth where naturism is unrestricted.
You'll have some superb walks and bike rides on all of these islands.
For mountain-biking and hiking fans, and lovers of the countryside, the Gorges du Verdon offer breathtakingly beautiful scenery. Between Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the Verdon river has carved steep gorges that are unique throughout Europe. If you're ready for adventure, follow the left bank of the Gorges, stopping to take in the numerous panoramic viewpoints. You'll then set off along the hills to the highest point of the Gorges, roughly 800 metres above the Verdon. The view from the summit encompasses the winding Verdon river and the lake of Sainte Croix.
The many gardens of the Riviera, suspended as they are above the Mediterranean, will captivate you. Close to Les Tournels Yelloh! Village, the Domaine du Rayol houses a collection of flora from places the world over that share a Mediterranean climate. Overlooking the sea, the site extends over slopes covered in cork oaks, pine trees and mimosas. The pergola and the cypress walk leading to a bamboo plantation set the scene for a visit to this stunning garden where there are over 400 species of exotic plants to be seen. You'll be captivated by the Olbius Riquier garden in Hyères, and the botanical museum in Porquerolles.
