Within a 20km radius of Lascaux Vacances Yelloh! Village, come and visit the Vézère valley, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, and immerse yourself in prehistoric times. We promise you an unforgettable holiday exploring utterly beautiful sites.
Near Montignac, the Lascaux cave was one of the 20th century's most famous archaeological finds, the frescoes that it houses dating back 15,000 years. These days it is closed to the public, and it is the replica, Lascaux II, that you'll be able to visit and where you'll be dazzled by the artistic talent of our ancestors. Delve enthusiastically into Prehistory as you visit the Musée National de la Préhistoire at Les Eyzies, a few kilometres away.
Not far from there, between Montignac and Les Eyzies, one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Périgord appears before you: the enormous Roque Saint Christophe cliff and its natural caves, which have been occupied by man since prehistoric times (55,000 years ago).
In the Dordogne, make an appointment with history in Sarlat: an 8th-century town, and frontier point between the Kings of France and England during the Hundred Years War (1337-1453), it became English in 1360 and was liberated ten years later by Du Guesclin. Europe's first town in terms of heritage, Sarlat is home to the greatest density of classified or listed historic monuments. You will come across numerous private mansions as you walk along the alleyways of this medieval city that could have come from a film set.
The road to Sarlat is lined with many chateaux: with the organisation of the county of Périgord, Beynac became one of the Périgord's four baronies, and was conquered by Richard the Lionheart. Castelnaud (where "Les Visiteurs" ("The Visitors") was filmed), and Les Milandes (former home of Josephine Baker)... La Roque-Gageac, a magnificent medieval village boasting an exotic garden, classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, nestles at the foot of high south-facing cliffs, in a loop of the Dordogne.
Not to be missed: just a stone's throw from the campsite, the magnificent village of Saint-Amand-de-Coly and its incredible XIIth-century fortified abbey.
Here, gourmands and gourmets are in heaven! Goose and duck foie gras, confits, ceps, truffles, cabécou goat cheese, walnuts, strawberries... the famous Périgord gastronomy will delight your tastebuds as you follow our selection of good restaurants... where you'll be able to discover recipes combining tradition and innovation. Indeed, there are a good many opportunities to meet the local producers, who will be more than willing to help you enjoy the gastronomic delights of the local produce.
