Camping or renting at La Côte de Nacre Yelloh! Village means immersing yourself in the Calvados, in the heart of Normandy, a region whose charm, richness and gastronomy you'll find utterly irresistible. For a discovery holiday, come in search of William the Conqueror and American film stars on the beaches of Deauville, via France's best-known tourist spot, the Mont Saint Michel.
Come and admire the "Wonder of the Western World"! The crowds are captivated by this marvellous abbey, defying the sea from its rock, and have made it the most visited monument in France. A masterpiece of Christian architecture and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the abbey of Mont St-Michel sits imposingly in the middle of a bay where life is governed by the tides. Surrounded by mystery, Mont St-Michel has set imaginations on fire: the shifting sands, sudden fogs, and tides rising "as fast as a galloping horse".
Deauville is not lacking in attractions: the famous Planches promenade, delightful rambles along the coast, the American film festival, and the fashionable events to which the celebrities flock, justify a stay in this floral seaside resort - if only for its reputation! With its casino royal, its palaces, villas and race course, Deauville is considered a suburb of Paris.
Honfleur, at the mouth of the Seine, offers the delights of both seaside and countryside. During the high season the ambience in Honfleur alternates between that of a fishing port and a tourist resort. Come and walk along the quay and gaze at the boats, stopping by an artist's easel or on the terrace of a cafe around the Vieux Bassin to sample a bowl of cider.
If you fancy having fun with Mickey and his whole troupe, there is also Disneyland® Resort Paris, 2½ hours from our campsite. Come and immerse yourself in the magical world of Disney, and you can experience life in an American town, to the sound of Ragtime or Dixieland, or, you could venture into the Wild West and its gunfights, a former gold mine and a haunted house. Visit the world of fairy tales: some old friends await you in Fantasyland: Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Snow White, and of course her seven dwarfs. Finally, if you'd like to travel into the future, Disneyland will catapult you to the moon, and send you on a spaceship voyage.
William the Conqueror conquered England and changed the course of history. Come and visit the Falaise region and its beautiful chateau where he was born. And come and admire the Bayeux tapestry. Listed as a UNESCO "world memory" site, with its mythological animals, its Viking ships, and its Norman and Saxon cavalry, this depicts the exploits of William and his enemy Harold.
In the summer of 1944, the Battle of Normandy was raging... But William the Conqueror's town was not to be defeated. It has risen from its ashes and is celebrating renewed peace: a marina, shopping streets and 30,000 students breathe life into the old walled city. The capital of Basse-Normandie, Caen still has typical medieval streets amidst the post-war architecture.
The Caen Peace Memorial is a call for peace throughout the world. A place to reflect, a journey to the 20th century, from 1918 to 2000, this is more than just a museum: installing the memorial in Caen (City of the History of Peace) makes it a place of memory and a compelling tool of reflection.
A gastronomical region, the specialities of Calvados are all more delicious than the last. The cider route will enable you to get to know this drink, so beloved of the Normans.
Many Normandy farms will enable you to appreciate the fleurette cream and our famous creamy cheeses such as the Livarot, Pont-l'Evêque and Camembert. You must try our region's seafood, Coquilles St-Jacques and Cotentin oysters, which you'll be able to catch yourself or buy in the ports to sample in a convivial atmosphere.
