Winter or summer, the Alpes de Haute-Provence are a paradise for countryside lovers. For your holidays, vast numbers of trekking trails await you, and mountain lakes that will take your breath away. Going camping at L'Étoile des Neiges Yelloh! Village is to recharge your batteries at the heart of beautiful unspoilt countryside.
Surrounding the campsite, at the foot of larch- and pine- covered slopes, you'll discover a lush green landscape abounding with agricultural activities: working the fields according to the seasons, horses, cows and sheep in the meadows, and farms. We're steeped in a tranquil way of life that springs from the soil.
8 km from our campsite, explore Seyne-les-Alpes: with its fortifications, medieval streets, mule museum, markets, and local festivals, it bears witness to the agricultural life of days gone by. Saint-Vincent-les-Forts overlooks the valley and provides the ideal setting for paragliding. A pretty 5-km walk takes you back to the campsite.
Feel like getting out and about? Thanks to the wind that blows every day, windsurfing is the favourite sport on the lake of Serre-Ponçon. Here, you often hear: "this is the sea in the mountains"! Pedestrianised to preserve its tranquillity, and full of pastel-painted houses, superb buildings and cobbled streets the old town of Embrun was for a long time the fortified town of the Durance valley.
Regional produce and delicious local fruit and vegetables are to be found at very reasonable prices in the colourful market places. You'll find our fine local produce, cheeses, yoghurts, and honey on the surrounding farms, and you can taste local wines 20 minutes from the campsite.
At the foot of the Charence chateau, the national botanical conservatory opens its gates for you to admire its collections of old roses and fruit from bygone days. Perching at an altitude of some 730m, the town of Gap is the highest prefecture in France. The fantastic scenic viewpoints along the Route de Napoléon, which passes through it, provide views of rocky ridges, wooded hillsides, and dark peaks. The town itself is dotted with fountains and pretty terraces.
Set off to explore Barcelonnette, marked by the exodus to Mexico of the Barcelonnette family, where you'll see some magnificent Mexican villas, move on to the village of Fouillouse, the birthplace of abbot Pierre, then to the Alpine passes, Italy, and the fortifications of Vauban and those of the last wars.
You'll be astonished at the variety of scenery and the history in which it is steeped. Abbeys, monasteries, churches, fortifications, cities of character, villages perched on high, museums: a whole heritage to visit. Pilgrimage sites to explore: Notre Dame du Laus, 30 minutes away by car, and Notre Dame de La Salette, a 90-minute car drive. 8km away, there is a geological reserve, along with museums and footpaths.
